After years of limited opportunities, my wife and I attended a timeshare presentation (as many of you probably have). While I dismissed most of the high-pressure sales tactics, one idea stuck with me: the importance of intentional travel.
The pitch was simple: if you designate a specific place and time for vacation, you’ll make travel happen.
That idea shifted my perspective. Here’s what changed for us — and what you can apply too:
- Adopt an intentional mindset
- Don’t wait for the “perfect time” to travel.
- Schedule trips in advance so they actually happen.
- Plan at least one big trip per year
- Give yourself something exciting to look forward to.
- Make it special — even if it means saving up or planning months ahead.
- Add several shorter getaways throughout the year
- Look for 3–4 day trips that don’t require long absences from work.
- Weekend road trips, nearby cities, or local attractions can feel like mini-vacations.
- Be a tourist in your own area
- Explore your city or region as if you were visiting for the first time.
- You’ll be surprised at how much there is to see close to home.
- Start simple and grow
- Our first intentional trip was a stay at a military base right on the beach.
- It was affordable, easy to reach, and perfect for our young family.
- Each trip after that built on the mindset of making travel a priority.
Your Turn:
- What opportunities do you have near you?
- Could you be a tourist in your own area?
- Have you really explored all that your region has to offer?
Start with intentional planning — even small steps — and let your travels grow from there.
🌍 I’d love to hear from you!
- Share your favorite short getaway spot in the comments.
- Tell us about a time you discovered something amazing right in your own backyard.
- Or drop your “dream intentional trip” — the one you’re finally planning to make happen.
Let’s inspire each other to make travel more intentional, one trip at a time. ✈️
